Learn one polite phrase you would really use abroad.

Why it helps

Phrases are remembered as whole units, so you speak with less effort than when you build sentences word by word. A few polite phrases also make a real difference when meeting people.

How to do it

1. Pick a phrase like 'Could I have the bill, please?'.
2. Listen to a recording of it, or sound it out carefully.
3. Repeat it five times, then write it from memory.
